Oat Groats are small, slender seeds that are yellowish-tan in colour. These seeds are common in mixes for parakeets and small parrots. They are relatively low in fat, and a good source of protein for many species that require lower fat diets. Oats are also a good source of soluble and insoluble fibre, essential for healthy functioning of the gut. Great training reward for many small parakeet species.

Oat Groats are somewhat calorie dense. When feeding species which are prone to weightgain, use in moderation. Excellent training treat for many smaller species, or add to a blend of other seeds. The table below is a guideline percentage of the bird's daily diet. Monitor your bird's health and condition. Make adjustments accordingly.
| Most Species | up to 7.5% |
| High-Energy Species (Parrotlets, Macaws, etc.) | up to 15% |
Consider the ration in relation to other things your bird is consuming. Feeding an abundance of oats in an already high-energy mix may be too much for some species. As with all foods, variety is important.
Store seeds in a cool, dry location. Allow airflow to prevent the development of molds that may cause illness like Aspergillosis. For extended storage periods (longer than 3-4 months), store in the freezer.
